Carving something sweet, you can easily whip up a smoothie or dessert using protein powder and have a guilt free delicious experience. But a lot of a time you want something savory as a snack or to go with your cup of tea/coffee and that’s when you start thinking how can I make a savory recipe using my protein powder? Here are 5 delicious and easy savory recipes with the goodness of protein powder that you must try!

Savory protein bars

Protein bars are a healthy snack, but have you ever tried savory protein bars? Try this easy recipe with whey protein and get all the benefits without the extra calories.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup unflavored whey protein powder
  • 1 cup cooked and cooled quinoa
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond/soy/ oat milk
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp salted almonds (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp salted pistachio (chopped)
  • ¼ cup chia seeds
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degree C. Grease a baking pan and keep aside.
  • Churn oats in a food processor until it turns into fine flour. Transfer into a large bowl.
  • Add protein powder, quinoa, salt, pepper, chia seeds, chopped almonds and pistachios, milk and blend well.
  • Spread the batter evenly in the pan and bake for 20 – 30 minutes.
  • Transfer to a plate and let it cool. Cut into bite sized bars and enjoy!

Protein pancakes

These pancakes are perfect if you don’t have a sweet tooth and want the goodness of protein powder in an easy recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 scoop unflavored whey protein powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • Seasoning and chilli flakes (optional)

Method

  • Process rolled oats in a blender until you get a fine powder and transfer it to a bowl.
  • To the bowl, add 2 eggs, salt, protein powder, and seasoning (optional). Mix well until you get a smooth batter.
  • Cook on medium flame on a non-stick pan until it turns golden brown on both sides!

Peanut butter protein balls

This recipe gives the traditional peanut butter protein balls a savory twist! Easy to make, store, and super healthy, this recipe is a must try.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup unflavored protein powder
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp sunflower/pumpkin seeds
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 tsp coarse salt
  • ¾ cup peanut butter
  • ½ tsp paprika powder

Method

  • In a large bowl mix together oats, protein powder, chia seeds, and sunflower/ pumpkin seeds.
  • Add the other ingredients – honey, peanut butter, salt, and paprika powder and mix well to form a sticky batter. If you think the batter is too thick, add a few drops of milk.
  • Make into small bite sized balls and enjoy!

Green smoothie

Swap your regular sweet smoothies with this savory smoothie and get all the goodness of healthy greens and protein powder.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup spinach
  • ½ cup coriander leaves
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp pink salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • ¼ avocado
  • ½ cup diced tomatoes
  • ½ cup boiled chickpeas
  • 1 scoop plant based protein or whey protein (unflavored)

Method

  • Put spinach, coriander, and vegetable broth in a blender jar and blend well.
  • Add the remaining ingredients – chickpeas, avocado, tomatoes, and lemon juice and blend well.
  • Mix in salt, chilli powder, and black pepper as per your taste and enjoy!

Sweet potato muffins

A sweet muffin with protein powder is a thing now! But it is time to try a savory muffin recipe and put an end to binge eating junk.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked and diced sweet potato
  • 1 scoop protein powder (unflavored)
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseeds
  • Herbs – thyme, rosemary, parsley (chopped)

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degree C. Grease the muffin tray and keep it aside.
  • Puree all the wet ingredients in a blender jar.
  • Add all the dry ingredients in the jar and mix well until you get a thick sticky batter.
  • Transfer into each muffin mould and bake for 20 – 25 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean.
  • Remove from oven and let them cool. Enjoy with a cup of tea.
